The application supports a major Homeland Security Counter Terrorism effort, which will be utilized by members of the new Terrorist Threat Integration Center. · Maintained and deployed the demo version of the new Java web application functionality on an SSL-enabled instance of the iPlanet Web Server. The new Java web application functionality includes document upload and enterprise search components, both of which leverage Jakarta Struts. · Created common application functionality that was utilized by all Java application processes. Functionality created includes the core objects of the application, the Document Value Object and the Document Data Access Object. It also includes user session management capabilities for the web application. · Led the interaction between the Oracle9i (9.2.0) database and Java, primarily utilizing JDBC and stored procedures. · Developed the multi-threaded cable ingest process that identifies cables in a directory and efficiently processes them, i.e. parses and inserts them into the database. Also created error-handling process for cables that identifies and logs any errors in the process and copies the culpable cable to an error directory for human processing. This process was used to process over 1,000,000 cables. · Proposed the migration (to Java and XML) of the legacy cable parser process currently written in C. This migration would have reduced the redundant processing of cables, allowed for the program to leverage the Oracle database's XMLType and improved the overall performance of the cable parsing process. · Mentored team members on Oracle JDeveloper9i, the J2EE environment and J2EE/Java best approaches and practices. · Provided guidance to task leaders on the design and architecture of new J2EE functionality (using the Struts framework) in the current application. · Continually discovered opportunities for application and performance improvement through the use of design patterns (J2EE and GoF) and best practices (aka refactoring). · Created J2EE team?s coding standards that promote best practices, application maintainability, and enhanced performance. · Prepared and configured the J2EE development environment. Oracle Corporation Senior Consultant November 2000 - September 2002 Multilingual Dictionary Java WebStart Application - This application is the second version of the application described in the below. · Built XML Schemas for multilingual dictionary entry XML validation and for submitting queries to the database. · Selected as the GUI team lead ahead of more senior team members. Built the framework of the GUI using core Java APIs and Java Swing. · Developed and prototyped the first Web Service and client proxy for the application. Also demonstrated that serialization of objects was possible through the Web Service. · Researched and recommended Web Services (and SOAP), which was accepted as the method of communication between the Java application client front-end (View) through WebStart and the application back-end (Controller) that connects to the application EJBs (Model) in WebLogic. · Conducted redesign research and recommended the MVC/J2EE architecture for the next iteration of the application. The proposed architecture was accepted and Marvin was commended for the recommendation. Multilingual Dictionary Web Application - This application allows users to retrieve dictionary entries in multiple languages (including Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Russian, or Spanish) and also allows expert users to add entries to their particular language's dictionary. · Developed a dictionary/newswire web application front end using JSPs, XML, HTML, XSL and JavaScript that retrieves and enters data (Strings and XML) from and to an Oracle8i (8.1.7) database using middle-tier and database EJBs using Oracle HTTP Server (Apache) as the Web Server and vi and JDeveloper as the development tools. Also modified middle-tier classes and Enterprise Java Beans as needed. · Orchestrated the migration of the dictionary/newswire web application in order for it to become J2EE compliant. · Deployed the standardized EAR (Enterprise Archive) containing the application to WebLogic and OC4J (as a demo), both with an Oracle8i database backend on Solaris. · Because of initial research conducted and demo setup using OC4J and our web application, the team was able to port the application relatively quickly to OC4J with minimal downtime when a problem arose with Apache. An unsuccessful port to OC4J would have been catastrophic to the delivery of the first iteration of the application and to the project itself. Oracle Database Auditing Tool · Developed the GUI of the first version of the Oracle database auditing client-side application/tool named Selective Audit using core Java APIs (including Java Swing and JDBC) and Oracle JDeveloper3.2. This application provides users, which are primarily DBAs, the ability to audit SQL executed in the database using a GUI. General · Occasionally performed the duties of a DBA while performing my duties as a developer. · Installed Oracle8i/9i, OMS (Oracle Management Server), OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager), Oracle9i Application Server, OC4J and Portal. · Tested and worked with Oracle's NLS (Natural Language Support). · Successfully completed the Develop, Deploy and Manage J2EE Applications with OC4J, XML: Develop Applications, and the Oracle9i DBA Fundamentals. United States Army Database Administrator/Personnel Administration Sergeant November 1999 - October 2000 Army Field Support Center, Intelligence and Security Command, Hanover, Maryland · Upon arrival to the command, tasked to update the organization's obsolete MS Access database, running on a Windows NT 4.0 platform, to enhance information flow, reduce information redundancy (optimization & normalization), and improve general administrative efficiency. In meeting this requirement, focused on the following essential steps: · Revamped the MS Access database to facilitate retrieval of personnel and unit training data, eliminating the need for constant and time-consuming retrieval and research of hard copy personnel records. · As part of the above, established primary keys and relationships between tables reducing information redundancy significantly, while concurrently speeding data entry by creating and modifying over 30 queries, 15 forms and 7 macros, all necessary to facilitate information input and retrieval. · Provided organization's executives technical assistance and guidance on the creation of task-specific forms and queries and the technical capability of the revamped database, with emphasis on creation and modification of tables, queries and organization-specific reports. · Provided the branch chief of the Military Personnel Division with technical assistance on the implementation of their new RDBMS, which was used for managing a greater number of personnel. The new RDBMS was based on the revamped database described above. · As an additional duty, volunteered to update and modernize the organization's classified website utilizing my self-taught HTML expertise and MS FrontPage 2000.
